Problem

An ideal battery is connected to two resistors R1R_1 and R2R_2 joined in series. The current through the circuit is measured for different values of the applied potential difference. The readings are: V=2 V,  I=0.04 AV=2\,\text{V},\; I=0.04\,\text{A} and V=6 V,  I=0.12 AV=6\,\text{V},\; I=0.12\,\text{A}. (i) Use these two readings to obtain the equivalent resistance of the series combination. (ii) If one of the resistors has a value of 30 Ω30\,\Omega, calculate the resistance of the other resistor. (iii) For an applied potential difference of 9 V9\,\text{V}, find the current in the circuit.
