Problem

Let p(x)={sin⁡(2x),x≤π4,cex−π/4,x>π4,p(x) = \begin{cases} \sin(2x), & x \le \frac{\pi}{4},\\ ce^{x-\pi/4}, & x > \frac{\pi}{4}, \end{cases} where cc is a positive constant. (a) Compute lim⁡x→(π/4)−p(x)\displaystyle \lim_{x\to (\pi/4)^-} p(x) and lim⁡x→(π/4)+p(x)\displaystyle \lim_{x\to (\pi/4)^+} p(x) in terms of cc. Show detailed algebraic or trigonometric steps. (b) Determine the value of cc that makes pp continuous at x=π4x=\frac{\pi}{4}. Explain each step in your reasoning. (c) For the value of cc found in part (b), evaluate lim⁡x→(π/4)p(x)−sin⁡(π/2)x−π/4\displaystyle \lim_{x\to (\pi/4)} \dfrac{p(x)-\sin(\pi/2)}{x-\pi/4}. Interpret the result in the context of differentiability at x=π4x=\frac{\pi}{4}. Clearly state whether pp is differentiable there and justify your conclusion.
