Problem
In 1987, a supernova in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) galaxy was observed.
(1) State which region of the HR diagram the star would have been in before it turned into a supernova.
(2) Suggest whether this star would have been less massive, the same mass or more massive than our Sun.
(3) State the minimum mass there must be in the core of this star for it to become a neutron star.
(4) Suggest what might eventually happen to the material that has been ejected from the star during the supernova event.
