Problem

For motion under constant acceleration, the velocity of a body varies linearly with time. (i) Starting from the equations of uniformly accelerated motion, show that the average velocity of the body during a time interval t1t_{1} to t2t_{2} equals its instantaneous velocity at the mid-point t1+t22\dfrac{t_{1}+t_{2}}{2}. (ii) Explain physically why this result does not, in general, hold for motion with variable acceleration.
