Problem

A bridge network has resistances R1R_1 (AB), R2R_2 (BC), R3R_3 (AD), R4R_4 (DC) and a galvanometer of resistance GG connected between B and D. A steady voltage VV is maintained between A and C. (a) Considering the currents in all five branches to be unknown, write the independent loop equations and the junction equation required to solve the circuit. (b) Eliminate the branch currents to derive an expression for the current IgI_g through the galvanometer in terms of R1, R2, R3, R4, GR_1,\,R_2,\,R_3,\,R_4,\,G and VV. (c) Using your result, show that IgI_g becomes zero when R1R2=R3R4\dfrac{R_1}{R_2}=\dfrac{R_3}{R_4}.
