Problem

Two successive displacement vectors act on a particle: A=10 m\mathbf{A}=10\,\text{m} at 40∘40^{\circ} north of east and B=15 m\mathbf{B}=15\,\text{m} at 30∘30^{\circ} south of east. The particle is then given a third displacement C\mathbf{C} so that it finally reaches a point 20 m20\,\text{m} due north of the initial position. (a) Calculate the xx- and yy-components of A+B\mathbf{A}+\mathbf{B}. (b) Hence find the magnitude and direction of C\mathbf{C} required to reach the stated final position.
