Problem

A solid cube of side 10 cm10\,\text{cm} and mass 0.60 kg0.60\,\text{kg} is gently released in freshwater of density 1000 kg m−31000\,\text{kg\,m}^{-3}. Answer the following questions: (i) Calculate the volume of the cube in m3\text{m}^{3}. (ii) Determine the density of the material of the cube in kg m−3\text{kg\,m}^{-3}. (iii) State, with reason, whether the cube will float or sink in the water. (iv) If the cube floats, find the fraction of its volume that remains submerged in the water.
