Problem
Consider three compound microscopes A, B and C. Each has the same tube length L, but different combinations of focal lengths of the objective (fo) and the eyepiece (fe) as listed below.
A : fo=0.5cm,fe=5cm
B : fo=0.6cm,fe=3cm
C : fo=0.4cm,fe=6cm
(a) Arrange the microscopes in the increasing order of their expected magnifying power when used with their final images at infinity.
(b) Explain your reasoning clearly, mentioning how changes in each focal length influence the overall magnification.
(c) Which single focal length change (either of the objective or of the eyepiece) would you regard as more effective for enhancing magnification, and why?
