Problem

In an experiment to find the coefficient of static friction μs\mu_s between wood and a tabletop, the following data were recorded: Mass of block (including added weights) and corresponding horizontal force required to just start motion: 1.0 kg → 3.0 N 1.5 kg → 4.5 N 2.0 kg → 6.1 N Take g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-2}. (a) For each mass, calculate μs\mu_s. (b) State the average value of μs\mu_s from the three trials. (c) Using the maximum deviation of the individual values from the average as the absolute uncertainty, find the percentage uncertainty in the experiment.
