Problem

The vertices of a triangular plot of land are A(−3,−1)A(-3,-1), B(5,2)B(5,2) and C(1,7)C(1,7). Two pegs are driven into the ground at points Q(2,3)Q(2,3) and R(3,5)R(3,5). (i) Compute the area of △ABC\triangle ABC. (ii) For the point QQ, find the areas of △QAB\triangle QAB, △QBC\triangle QBC and △QCA\triangle QCA, and hence decide whether QQ lies inside, on an edge of, or outside the triangular plot. (iii) Repeat part (ii) for the point RR. (iv) Compare the locations of QQ and RR with respect to △ABC\triangle ABC, clearly stating your conclusions.
