Problem

Two forces F1⃗\vec{F_1} and F2⃗\vec{F_2} act at a point OO in a horizontal plane. F1⃗\vec{F_1} has magnitude 50 N50\,\text{N} and is directed along the positive xx-axis. F2⃗\vec{F_2} has magnitude 80 N80\,\text{N} and is inclined at 60∘60^{\circ} to the positive xx-axis, measured towards the positive yy-axis. (i) Express F1⃗\vec{F_1} and F2⃗\vec{F_2} in terms of the unit vectors i\mathbf{i} and j\mathbf{j}. (ii) Determine the resultant force R⃗=F1⃗+F2⃗\vec{R}=\vec{F_1}+\vec{F_2} in component form. (iii) Find the magnitude of R⃗\vec{R} and the angle it makes with the positive xx-axis, correct to one decimal place.
