Problem

The table lists several standard reduction half-reactions. 1. Cl₂(g) + 2 e⁻ → 2 Cl⁻(aq)  E° = +1.36 V 2. Fe³⁺ + e⁻ → Fe²⁺      E° = +0.77 V 3. Cu²⁺ + 2 e⁻ → Cu(s)     E° = +0.34 V 4. Ni²⁺ + 2 e⁻ → Ni(s)     E° = –0.25 V 5. Zn²⁺ + 2 e⁻ → Zn(s)     E° = –0.76 V Design a galvanic cell that achieves a standard cell potential of at least +0.80 V without using silver electrodes. Specify (a) which half-reaction occurs at the cathode and which at the anode, (b) the balanced overall cell reaction, and (c) the resulting E°cell value.
