Problem

Consider the matrices A=[1236],B=[k−2k1−2],A=\begin{bmatrix}1 & 2\\ 3 & 6\end{bmatrix},\qquad B=\begin{bmatrix}k & -2k\\ 1 & -2\end{bmatrix}, where kk is a real parameter. (a) Find the value(s) of kk for which ABAB equals the zero matrix of order 22. (b) For the value of kk obtained in part (a), write the resultant matrix BB and verify that it is not the zero matrix. (c) Compute ABAB for this value of kk to confirm your answer.
