Problem
A parallel-plate air capacitor is altered in two independent ways. Describe, without performing any numerical calculation, how its capacitance is affected in each case.
(i) The area of each plate is doubled while the separation remains unchanged.
(ii) The separation between the plates is doubled while the plate area remains unchanged.
