Problem

An ultrasonic transducer fixed at the top of a vertical tank filled with an organic liquid sends a short pulse straight down to the bottom. The echo from the bottom surface is received 2.60 ms after emission. The depth of the liquid column is known to be 3.20 m and its density is 900 kg/m³. Answer the following: (i) Calculate the speed of sound in the liquid. (ii) Determine the bulk modulus of the liquid. (iii) If the measured depth has an uncertainty of ±0.01 m and the echo-time has an uncertainty of ±0.01 ms, estimate the percentage error in the value of the bulk modulus obtained in part (ii).
