Problem

A force of constant magnitude 15 N15\,\text{N} acts at the end of a light rod of length 0.75 m0.75\,\text{m} hinged at one end. The force is applied at an angle θ\theta to the rod in the plane of motion. (a) Show that the magnitude of the turning moment about the hinge is 11.25sin⁡θ N m11.25\sin\theta\,\text{N m}. (b) If the required turning moment is 6.0 N m6.0\,\text{N m}, calculate the two possible values of θ\theta (to the nearest degree). (c) For what value(s) of θ\theta will the turning moment be zero? Explain physically why this result is expected.
