Problem

A playground turntable starts from rest, accelerates uniformly for 4 s4\,\text{s} with an angular acceleration of 1.5 rad s−21.5\,\text{rad\,s}^{-2}, then rotates at the constant angular velocity reached for the next 3 s3\,\text{s}, and finally decelerates uniformly to rest in 5 s5\,\text{s}. Treat all motion as about the same fixed axis. (i) Calculate the angular velocity attained at the end of the first 4 s4\,\text{s}. (ii) Compute the angular displacement during each of the three stages and hence find the total angular displacement for the entire motion. (iii) Determine the average angular velocity for the whole interval of motion. (iv) Find the instantaneous angular velocity 4 s4\,\text{s} after the beginning of the deceleration phase.
