Problem

A 5 kg5\,\text{kg} wooden crate rests on a horizontal floor for which μs=0.35\mu_s = 0.35 and μk=0.25\mu_k = 0.25. A constant horizontal pull of 30 N30\,\text{N} is applied for 3 s3\,\text{s} and is then removed. Take g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\text{m s}^{-2}. (i) Show whether the crate will move when the pull is first applied. (ii) If it moves, calculate its acceleration during the time the pull acts. (iii) Find the speed of the crate at the instant the pull is removed. (iv) Determine the additional distance travelled by the crate before it comes to rest after the pull is removed.
