Problem
The equation 7x+3=2x+18 was given to three students. Each of them suggested a different value for x. The suggested values are 3,4 and 5.
(i) For x=3, calculate the left-hand side (LHS) and the right-hand side (RHS) of the equation and state whether they are equal.
(ii) Repeat the above process for x=4.
(iii) Repeat the above process for x=5.
(iv) From your calculations in parts (i)–(iii), identify the value(s) of x that satisfy the equation.
