Problem

A point charge of +4 μC+4\,\mu\text{C} is fixed at the origin. A proton is released from rest at a point 20 cm20\,\text{cm} from the charge. (Take 14πε0=9×109 N m2 C−2\frac{1}{4\pi\varepsilon_0} = 9\times10^9\,\text{N}\,\text{m}^2\,\text{C}^{-2}, charge on proton e=1.6×10−19 Ce = 1.6\times10^{-19}\,\text{C}, mass of proton mp=1.67×10−27 kgm_{p} = 1.67\times10^{-27}\,\text{kg}.) (i) Calculate the electric potential at the proton’s initial position, taking the potential at infinity to be zero. (ii) Find the speed acquired by the proton when it is very far away from the fixed charge.
