Problem

A stone is thrown vertically upward from the ground with an initial velocity of 20 m s−120\,\text{m\,s}^{-1}. Take g=10 m s−2g=10\,\text{m\,s}^{-2} directed downward. (i) Calculate the maximum height reached by the stone above the point of projection. (ii) Determine the time taken to reach this maximum height. (iii) Find the velocity of the stone 3 s3\,\text{s} after it is projected. (iv) Compute the total time for which the stone remains in the air before returning to the ground.
