Problem

A ladder 10 m10\,\text{m} long rests against a vertical wall. The ladder makes an angle θ\theta with the horizontal such that sin⁡θ=45.\sin \theta = \dfrac{4}{5}. Solve the following. (i) Find the distance of the foot of the ladder from the wall and the height at which the ladder touches the wall. (ii) The foot of the ladder is then pulled away so that it is 2 m2\,\text{m} farther from the wall than in part (i). Keeping the ladder length unchanged, calculate the new height reached by the top of the ladder. (iii) Determine, correct to the nearest degree, the new angle the ladder makes with the ground.
