Problem

Answer the following questions related to the physical meaning of capacitance. (i) Define capacitance of an isolated conductor. (ii) A capacitor is charged and then isolated so that the charge on it remains constant. Explain qualitatively what happens to the potential difference across its plates if its capacitance is doubled. (iii) A student asserts: “If the potential difference across a capacitor is kept constant and its capacitance becomes half, the charge on it will become double.” Do you agree with the statement? Give a reason for your answer without making any numerical calculation.
