Problem

Two fair dice are thrown simultaneously. Let E1_1 : “the sum of the two numbers is 2, 3 or 4” E2_2 : “the sum of the two numbers is 10, 11 or 12”. (i) Show that E1_1 and E2_2 are mutually exclusive. (ii) Calculate P(E1)P(\text{E}_1) and P(E2)P(\text{E}_2). (iii) Hence find P(E1∪E2)P(\text{E}_1\cup\text{E}_2).
