Problem

Three identical resistors each of resistance RR are connected across a battery of constant voltage VV in two different ways—first all in series and then all in parallel. (i) For the series arrangement, obtain an expression for the total power drawn from the battery in terms of VV and RR. (ii) For the parallel arrangement, obtain an expression for the total power drawn from the battery in terms of VV and RR. (iii) Comparing your results for parts (i) and (ii), state which arrangement draws more power and give a brief explanation for this difference.
