Problem
Cobalt(II) chloride hexahydrate, CoCl2·6H2O(s), turns from pink to blue when heated, producing anhydrous CoCl2(s). When water is later added, the solid returns to its original pink color. For each step—heating (dehydration) and subsequent addition of water (rehydration)—state whether the change is physical or chemical and justify each classification in one or two sentences by referring to the breaking or forming of bonds and intermolecular interactions.
