Problem

A function PP is defined by P(x)={5,x≤3,mx+2,x>3,P(x)=\begin{cases} 5,& x\le3,\\ mx+2,& x>3, \end{cases} where mm is a real constant. (i) Find the left–hand and right–hand limits of P(x)P(x) as x→3x\to3. (ii) Determine the value of mm for which PP is continuous at x=3x=3.
