Problem

A stone is thrown upward from the top of a cliff that is 25 m25\,\text{m} high with an initial speed of 12 m s−112\,\text{m s}^{-1}. Neglect air resistance and take g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\text{m s}^{-2}. (i) Determine the greatest height above the top of the cliff reached by the stone before it begins to fall downward. (ii) Calculate the speed of the stone just before it strikes the ground at the foot of the cliff.
