Problem

Two point charges +4 μC+4\,\mu\text{C} and −9 μC-9\,\mu\text{C} are fixed 50 cm50\,\text{cm} apart on a straight line in vacuum. Take the +4 μC+4\,\mu\text{C} charge at the origin O and the −9 μC-9\,\mu\text{C} charge on the positive xx-axis. (i) For a small positive test charge qq placed at a point P on the xx-axis at coordinate xx, write an expression for the net electrostatic force F(x)F(x) acting on it in terms of xx. (ii) Obtain all value(s) of xx (if any) for which F(x)=0F(x)=0. (iii) Identify which of the positions found in part (ii) are physically accessible to the test charge and give reasons for rejecting any non-physical solutions.
