Problem

A short electric dipole has dipole moment 1.5×10−7 C m1.5\times10^{-7}\,\text{C\,m} and is held fixed in air with its axis along the zz-direction. At a point RR, the dipole produces an electric potential of 90 V90\,\text{V}. The point RR is located such that it makes an angle of 30∘30^{\circ} with the dipole axis. (i) Determine the distance of point RR from the centre of the dipole. (ii) Keeping the angle the same, the point is moved to double the distance obtained in part (i). Calculate the new potential at this position. (iii) By what factor does the potential change when the distance of a point from a dipole is doubled while the angle remains unchanged? Explain whether this factor depends on the angle chosen.
