Problem

A cylindrical water tank of height 6.0 m is completely filled with water. At the base of the tank there is a square inspection hatch of side 0.50 m that lies horizontal. (i) Calculate the gauge pressure acting on the outer face of the hatch. (ii) Determine the absolute pressure acting on the hatch. Take atmospheric pressure as 1.01×105 Pa1.01\times10^{5}\,\text{Pa}. (iii) Find the total force exerted by the water on the hatch.
