Problem

Ashok leaves his house and walks 3 km3\,\text{km} due east, then 4 km4\,\text{km} due north, and finally returns home along the shortest possible straight path. (i) Calculate the total distance covered by Ashok in reaching the point 4 km4\,\text{km} north of his house. (ii) Find the magnitude of his displacement from home at that point. (iii) Work out the total distance and the net displacement for the entire trip when he arrives back home. (iv) If the complete journey takes 2 h2\,\text{h}, compute his average speed and average velocity for the trip.
