Problem

A Ferris wheel in an amusement park has passenger cabins attached at a radius of 15 m15\,\text{m} from the centre. For rider comfort, the magnitude of centripetal acceleration experienced at full speed must not exceed 1.5 m s−21.5\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-2}. (i) Calculate the greatest angular speed (in rad s−1\text{rad}\,\text{s}^{-1}) the wheel may have without violating this limit. (ii) Determine the smallest possible time for one complete revolution at this speed. (iii) The wheel is brought from rest to the angular speed found in part (i) by means of a uniform angular acceleration acting for 20 s20\,\text{s}. Find (a) the angular acceleration, (b) the tangential acceleration of a passenger cabin at t=10 st = 10\,\text{s}, and (c) the resultant magnitude of total acceleration of the cabin at the same instant.
