Problem
A 12V car battery with internal resistance 0.4Ω is connected to a headlamp whose resistance is 5.6Ω when glowing at normal temperature.
The headlamp is switched on for 30min while the engine (which normally keeps the battery charged) is off.
Answer the following.
(i) Calculate the current drawn by the headlamp.
(ii) Find the power converted into light and heat in the headlamp during operation.
(iii) Determine the power lost inside the battery at the same time.
(iv) Compute the total electrical energy taken from the battery in the 30min period, and state how much of this energy was dissipated inside the battery itself.
