Problem

A rectangular conducting frame has corners A (top left), B (top right), C (bottom right), and D (bottom left), with conductors along every side. A straight conductor runs from the midpoint of AB vertically down to the midpoint of CD, dividing the rectangle into two equal smaller rectangles. Four resistors are placed as follows: R1 on the segment of AB between A and the midpoint, R2 on BC, R3 on the segment of CD between the midpoint and C, and R4 on DA. (1) State the total number of independent closed loops in this circuit. (2) For resistor R2, state how many of those independent closed loops include the resistor.
