Problem

A 230 V (r.m.s), 50 Hz AC supply is applied to a series combination of a 60 Ω resistor, a 0.25 H inductor and a 160 μF capacitor. (i) Calculate the reactances, impedance and power factor of the circuit. (ii) Resolve the total r.m.s current into its wattless component and the component in phase with the supply voltage. (iii) Hence find the average power consumed by the circuit.
