Problem

A confectioner packs a large carton containing only red and white candies. The carton already has 48 red candies. The confectioner wants the probability of picking a red candy at random from the sealed carton to be exactly 0.30.3. (i) Let TT be the total number of candies finally sealed in the carton. Write the probability of drawing a red candy in terms of TT. (ii) Calculate TT. (iii) Suppose the confectioner later adds 12 more red candies to the same carton without changing any white candies. What will be the new probability of drawing a red candy?
