Problem

A scooter starts from rest and moves in a straight line. It accelerates uniformly at 3 m s−23\,\text{m\,s}^{-2} for the first 5 s5\,\text{s} and then continues at the velocity reached for the next 4 s4\,\text{s}. (i) Calculate the velocity at the end of the first 5 s5\,\text{s}. (ii) Find the total displacement covered in the whole 9 s9\,\text{s} journey.
