Problem

A series RLC circuit consists of a resistor R=40 ΩR=40\,\Omega, an inductor L=150 mHL=150\,\text{mH} and a capacitor C=10 μFC=10\,\mu\text{F}. It is connected to a 220 V220\,\text{V} (rms) alternating source whose frequency can be varied. (i) Calculate the rms current in the circuit when the supply frequency is 400 Hz400\,\text{Hz}. (ii) Determine the power factor of the circuit at 400 Hz400\,\text{Hz} and state whether the current leads or lags the voltage. (iii) Find the frequency (in Hz) at which the power factor becomes unity and compute the corresponding rms current.
