Problem

A 2 Ω2\,\Omega resistor R1R_1 is connected in series with a parallel combination of a 4 Ω4\,\Omega resistor R2R_2 and a 6 Ω6\,\Omega resistor R3R_3 across a 12 V12\,\text{V} source of negligible internal resistance. (i) Find the equivalent resistance of the entire circuit. (ii) Determine the current through each resistor. (iii) Calculate the power dissipated in each resistor as well as the total power drawn from the source. (iv) If R3R_3 is replaced by a 3 Ω3\,\Omega resistor while R1R_1 and R2R_2 remain unchanged, by what factor does the total power consumed by the circuit change?
