Problem

A crate of mass 12 kg12\,\text{kg} is released from rest at the top of a smooth incline that makes an angle of 30∘30^{\circ} with the horizontal. It slides down the incline through a distance of 6.0 m6.0\,\text{m}. (i) Calculate the component of the crate’s weight acting along the incline. (ii) Obtain the work done by this component during the 6.0 m6.0\,\text{m} slide. (iii) Determine the speed of the crate at the bottom of the incline. (iv) If the crate were instead given an initial speed of 2.0 m s−12.0\,\text{m\,s}^{-1} up the same incline and brought to rest by gravity alone, find the distance it would travel before stopping.
