Problem

Two ideal single-phase transformers are used in cascade for power transmission between a generator and a distant load. The generator delivers an rms voltage of 440 V440\,\text{V} to the primary of transformer T1_1. Transformer T1_1 has Ns1:Np1=40:1N_{s1}:N_{p1}=40:1 and feeds the primary of transformer T2_2 through long transmission lines. Transformer T2_2 has Ns2:Np2=1:20N_{s2}:N_{p2}=1:20 and its secondary supplies a resistive load that draws 15 A15\,\text{A} (rms). Assuming both transformers are ideal and there are no line losses, answer the following: (i) Calculate the rms voltage at the output of transformer T1_1. (ii) Determine the rms current in the line between T1_1 and T2_2. (iii) Find the rms voltage finally delivered to the load. (iv) Compute the rms current drawn from the 440 V440\,\text{V} source. (v) Comment on how the cascade arrangement affects the current in the long transmission line compared with transmitting the same power directly at 440 V440\,\text{V}.
