A gun–bullet system illustrates Newton’s third law in everyday life. Answer the following:
(i) State Newton’s third law of motion.
(ii) With reference to the gun–bullet system, clearly identify the action force and the corresponding reaction force.
(iii) If the forces on the gun and the bullet are equal and opposite, explain why the bullet is propelled forward with a high speed whereas the gun moves backward with a comparatively small speed.
