Problem

A horizontal oil pipeline (oil density 850 kg m−3850\,\text{kg}\,\text{m}^{-3}) has a gauge reading of 260 kPa260\,\text{kPa} at point A. Farther downstream at point B a sensor registers an absolute pressure of 385 kPa385\,\text{kPa}. Atmospheric pressure is 98 kPa98\,\text{kPa}. Assuming the pressure difference is due only to a vertical height difference of the oil column between A and B, calculate the elevation of point B relative to point A. Use g=9.8 m s−2g=9.8\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-2}.
