Problem

A right circular cylinder of cross-sectional area AA and height hh is held with its axis vertical and is completely immersed in a liquid of density ρ\rho. The top of the cylinder is at a depth dd below the free surface. (a) Write expressions for the pressures acting on the top and bottom faces. (b) Derive an expression for the net vertical force on the cylinder in terms of ρ, g, A\rho,\,g,\,A and hh. (c) Show that this net force equals the weight of the liquid displaced by the cylinder.
