Problem

Two very long, straight, parallel conductors are separated by a distance dd. Conductor A carries a current I1I_1 out of the page, while conductor B carries a current I2I_2 into the page. (i) State the principle that allows you to evaluate the magnetic field at any point in space when more than one current-carrying conductor is present. (ii) Explain qualitatively, without performing any numerical calculation, how the magnitude and direction of the net magnetic field vary along the line joining the two conductors when I1=I2I_1 = I_2. (iii) If I1≠I2I_1 \neq I_2, describe the region(s) along the line joining the conductors where the net magnetic field can become zero. Justify your answer with suitable reasoning based on the field patterns of the individual conductors.
