Problem

A vector b\mathbf{b} has magnitude 1010 units. Its direction cosines with the xx– and yy–axes are cos⁡α=35\cos\alpha=\dfrac{3}{5} and cos⁡β=−45\cos\beta=-\dfrac{4}{5}, respectively. (a) Determine cos⁡γ\cos\gamma, the direction cosine of b\mathbf{b} with the zz–axis. (b) Hence obtain the components of b\mathbf{b} along the three coordinate axes. (c) Verify by direct calculation that the magnitude found from the components in part (b) is indeed 1010 units.
