Problem

In a household lighting circuit supplied at 230 V, an electric bulb (resistance 460 Ω), an electric heater (115 Ω) and a ceiling fan (920 Ω) are connected in parallel to the same switchboard. (i) Determine the equivalent resistance of the three appliances when all are switched on together. (ii) Calculate the current drawn by each appliance. (iii) Find the total current drawn from the mains and state whether a 5 A fuse in the circuit will melt. Give a reason for your answer.
