Problem

A comet starts from a point very far away from Earth with negligible initial speed relative to Earth. When its distance from the centre of Earth becomes 2RE2R_E, where RE=6.4×106 mR_E = 6.4\times10^{6}\,\text{m} is the radius of Earth, calculate the speed acquired by the comet. Take mass of Earth ME=6.0×1024 kgM_E = 6.0\times10^{24}\,\text{kg} and universal gravitational constant G=6.67×10−11 N m2kg−2G = 6.67\times10^{-11}\,\text{N m}^2\text{kg}^{-2}.
