Problem

A laboratory has a series circuit that is specified as follows: • Resistance R=60 Ω±5%R = 60\,\Omega \pm 5\% • Inductance L=80 mH±2%L = 80\,\text{mH} \pm 2\% • Capacitance C=25 μF±3%C = 25\,\mu\text{F} \pm 3\% The circuit is connected to a 230 V230\,\text{V} (rms), 50 Hz50\,\text{Hz} a.c. supply. (a) Using the nominal component values, calculate the rms current in the circuit. (b) Taking into account the stated tolerances of the components, determine the maximum possible rms current that could flow. (c) Determine the minimum possible rms current under the given tolerances. (d) State briefly how the component variations influence the current obtained in parts (b) and (c).
